Round 71: Cinema Paradiso

Become a cinema buff, and inspire yourself by films to create your icons. As this round is based on movies you can also icon your favorite classics. Below you'll find examples, that for me (and a large part of the Internet) are examples of most prominent films that inspire new generations of directors. But of course you can freely use your own examples - just let us know which movies are your inspirations.
Thank you [personal profile] freddykrueger for inspiring this round!

Because this one is so late, and we're entering the vacation months - this round will end JUNE 28th

Blade Runner
Blade Runner, with its use of strong shafts of light and backlighting
is one of the hard sci-fi classics that inspire directors to this day.
Ridley Scott knew what he wanted to achieve, this included, among other things,
high contrast, unusual camera angles, and the use of strong light.

Dracula
Vampires, and all creatures of the nigth are the main inspiration
of the Dracula movies, and a lot of horror film classics.
But Dracula is so much more than Vampires, it's also a movie
about a great love, and of duality of human nature.

Godfather
American epic crime film, with the elements of a film noir.
The Godfather is regarded as one of the greatest and most
influential films ever made, as well as a landmark of the gangster genre.

Star Trek vs Star Wars
The Star Trek and the Star Wars franchises started
the cinematic expansion into space. Both of these depict
the adventures of characters "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away".
These series have become a staple for fans of space opera-type movies and TV shows,
which has expanded into a vast universe spanning multiple fictional
eras in which humans and multiple species of aliens coexist with robots.

Jurassic Park
This survival movie set on an exotic island
changed the sci-fi genre with it's amazing robotic dinosaurs forever.

The Matrix
Matrix depicts a dystopian future in which humanity is unknowingly
trapped inside the Matrix. The Matrix had a strong effect
on action filmmaking in Hollywood, films made abundant use
of slow-motion, spinning cameras, and, often, the bullet time effect
of a character freezing or slowing down and the camera dollying around them.

Wes Anderson Movies
The recipie for a Wes Anderson movie: head-on camera angle,
harmonious colour palettes, instilling a sense of nostalgia,
props and set design.

Lord of The Rings
This magical road movie, where the team embarks on a
dangerous journey to save the world, turned into an
epic saga beloved by many fans.
